It’s actually a pretty shitty organization, and more of a trend than anything.

I’ve dealt with self-injury for years and feel this way, too. And it may not necessarily be the organization itself, but the “trendiness” that has surrounded it has transformed it into something pretty useless. People wear the shirts and wristbands because members of their favorite bands do - not because they understand anything about the issues they support. I just hate that people seem to be just as ignorant about cutting, especially, even when a group such as this has gained such popularity. The thing is, it has become popular for the wrong reasons, which is what frustrates me the most about it. If people paid more attention to what the fucking name even means, there would be a lot less jokes made about “emo kids” and their “cutting”. I feel like it would finally become a legitimate topic, and not something to be tossed around as humor. Self-injury and suicide are serious and they affect more people everyday than society wants to realize. It’s sad that even when something as popular as TWLOHA gains recognition, people still remain ignorant overall.
